Bandra Worli Sea Link Opens Today

The much awaited Bandra Worli sea link which is suppose to ease traffic congestion which travelling from Bandra to Worli is open today to . Since 12 am today one can use the engineering marvel. The bridge has been conceived in 1990s and was delayed over a period of 10 years and went 4 times in cost hike to Rs 1600 crore. The bridge is named as Rajiv Gandhi Setu. It is a 8-lane, cable-stayed bridge which connected Bandra and the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli and central Mumbai. Bandra Worli Sea Link is the first phase of the West Island Freeway system. The next phase will see connecting Worli with Nariman Point, via Malabar Hill. The project was undertaken by MSRDC (Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation) and executed by Hindustan Construction Company. LoL! MSRDC websites under attack from hackers. Congress president Sonia Gandhi inagurated the bandra – worli link with much fan fare in the presence of Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan and NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The foundation stone was laid in 1999, by Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray.
It will cut travel time between 60–75 minutes to under 10 minutes.

Daily travel: (multiple entries) | 2.5 times basic toll
Monthly pass: (all vehicles) | 50 times basic toll
Note: Buses will be charged Re 1 extra for each commuter ticket
