Be Careful of Beggers in Bangalore

August 29, 2008 – 2:03 pm

I know beggers bother you a lot on Bangalore roads now a days. Most of us tend to avoid them or ignore them. But please be careful if recent incidents are to be taken note of. Because beggers now not beg but take by force at knife point if if you refuse to give. Bangalore Mirror reported that a resident of K.G halli was attacked by a begger with knife as he refused to give money. This happened around 7.30 pm in the evening in Pillanna garden. So please be alert and try to identify the begging nature. You may find begger at traffic signals - the best way to avoid them if you are in vehicle is just closed the windows. If you are in a two wheeler or auto, just avoid/ignore them. But you should be careful at night or secluded places. In such situations, the look a like begger is not actually a begger but may be a criminal. Be careful of people comming and narrating story of misery all of sudden. Most of them are fake. In Bangalore, you might have encountered some people asking you if you know Hindi in public places like road or bus stands. Then they will narrate a story of misery, do not fall for them - they are plain fake. I can tell you for sure, as I have encountered many such cases. The earliest case I remember was in 2002 0r 2003. One man approachedĀ me and my friendsĀ on MG road at night asking if we are Hindiwala and then told they have lost their baggage and they do not have any money. He was accompanied by two more man, a lady and a kid. My friend gave Rs 10! On this the man told what is this sir! what will happen with this? After this I have encountered many such cases. So you can understand that this incident cannot continue for more than 5 years.
