Butterfly Park at Bannerghatta National Park
November 5, 2007 – 2:34 pm
The Bannerghatta National Park has a new addition now - A Butterfly Park. The was inaugurated on Saturday November 25 2006 but this was my first visit there. During my earlier visit in March 2007 I could not make it. The Butterfly Park is spread across 7.5 acres of land. It comprises a butterfly conservatory, museum and an audio-visual room. The butterfly conservatory has a polycarbonate roof and is a 10,000 sq ft. circular enclosure, inside which the living environment has been carefully designed to support over 20 species of butterflies. The environment has a tropical setting — complete with the humid climate, an artificial waterfall and host plants and shrubs that attract butterflies. The conservatory leads to the second and third domes, which have a museum that exhibits different species of butterflies and their life history and lastly a media room showing viedo on butterflies. This park is an initiative of the National Bioresources Development Board, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and executed jointly by:
ZAK - Zoo Authority of Karnataka
GKVK - University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore
ATREE - Ashoka Trust For Research on Environment and Ecology
The butterfly park is an excellent creation and I think is better than the zoo and the safari. It comes on the way to the safari and one can walk a little bit to reach there.

Dear Sirs,
We are a private company from Almaty, Kazakhstan and we want to create a butterfly park in our city. We heard about your butterfly collection in the Butterfly Park of Bannerghatta National Park and wanted to enquire if you could provide information on species in your collection, sell us larvae of different species of butterflies, recommend media, conditions for their growth, and provide educative course for their maintenance if required.
Thanking you in advance,
Yelena Muradova

Hi,
Whats the best way to reach the national park from Jaynagar?
Thanks and Regards,
Ananth

@ Ananth - If you want to take the public transport, it is fine as there are many buses to and from Bannerghatta National Park. I suggest you to go for the volvo buses. I am not sure if the buses go via Jayanagar. However, you can catch them from Majestic(bus no 365) and cost around Rs 60 per person. The buses are very comfortable and overall good. However, if you have your won vehicle - you can look at that option too.
