Chandrayaan: India’s First Ever Mission to Moon
October 18, 2008 – 4:06 am

There is are a lot of buzz about this and many are confused. So what exactly Chandrayaan will do?
Mission: Chandrayaan- 1is an unmanned misson which will reveolve around the moon and will examine the unvisible side of the moon. Also, examine minerals available on moon like Helium – 3 etc
Cost: Rs 386 crore
Time Required: The satellite will take 3 days to reach Earth’s orbit and 20 days to reach the lunar orbit.
If this mission is successful, it could pave the way for near future manned missions to moon. The preparations are in its final stage now and if everything goes well, Chandrayaan – 1 will be launched on October 22nd, 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It is almost an indegenious project and will be launched on a PSLV rocket.
While exploring about Chandrayaan, I found an interesting article, “Chandrayaan – is it justified for a developing country?” I think yes, it is justified. As we cannot wait till we banish poverty. Development in science and technology and banishing poverty should go side by side. If we do not do so then it may be too late when we start. And the pace at which social upliftment happens in our country, we will be found forever wanting. In fact science and technology canĀ help banish poverty.
