Communal Tension in Parts of Bangalore

July 12, 2008 – 12:50 pm

Communal tension broke after pig’s meat or head was found in two mosques in Hebbal and J.C nagar. By the afternoon it started spreading to other areas and words of mouth too started moving fast. I needed to reach Yeshwantpur railway station to drop some persons who were leaving Bangalore yesterday. We left home around 5.15 pm. The driver of the auto we hired told that he received just 5 minutes back with the info that tensions prevailing in some parts of Bangalore following the incident. He told me that the areas which were mainly affected are RT Nagar, Vasanth nagar, Muni Reddy Palya etc. One typically take the Palace road – Sankey road …… to reach Yeshwantpur. As Palace road was said to be in grip of tension, the auto driver decided to take Sankey road. Traffic had been diverted from nearby areas which led to more congestion. There was heavy traffic in Ulsoor, Mink Square etc. After Sankey tank the traffic eased out to a great extent. I was little tensed as they had to catch a train in the evening. God’s grace we reached well in time at 6.40 pm. All through the way auto drivers were discussing what could have caused the incident and possible impact. I the beginning I thought he was telling just to scare us as he asked Rs 50 more on top of the meter. I wanted to change the auto but I was convinced upon to continue in the same auto as it was journey time. We did shell out Rs 50 more. The auto driver told he put his life on risk to drop us there. Giving Rs 50 more did not make me feel good but reaching there in time did make it up. The auto driver seems to be good.

Btw, the situation seems to be under control now and nothing untoward has been heard today.
