Delivery Time for Passport To Get Shorter
September 14, 2007 – 2:40 am
A leading newspaper published that the centre is planning to outsource passport works to private agencies allwoing then to set up private passport centres to help the Regional Passport Offices or RPOs. Apart from the police verification, signing and stamping of the passport – entire work will be done by these private centres. Also, the delivery of the passport is to be outsourced. It is not clear yet how that will be done. As of now the passports are delivered via postal services. So using the courier network may quicken the process.
68 such centres are proposed to be setup striving to issue a passport within 3 days. This proposal has already been passed by the union cabinet. It claims duplicate passport will be issued within 3 days however change in name and address will be done the same day. Whether they are able to live upto their claim of 3 days that only time can tell. However, when this scheme is implemented one thing is sure, one can expect that the passport delivery time will be reduced considerably from what it takes now.
Guys, also note that the Bangalore passport office has moved from Brunton road off MG road to Koramangla near National games Village. For more information please visit the Bangalore RPO website.
