Kolkata Knight Riders Beaten Deccan Chargers in the First Match of IPL Season 3
March 13, 2010 – 1:01 am
IPL 3 had a lot pf hoopla and tension in the run up. First with the non inclusion of Pakistani players and so on. But the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 3 started with a turn around. The team at the bottom from the last IPL 2 defeated defending champion Deccan Chargers. But did not seems so when the game started. Deccan chargers led by Adam Gilchrist dominated the first 10 overs of their batting and bowling but they slipped in the last 10 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batted first and they were 31 for 4 after 5.1 overs. After 10 overs KKR scored only 57 runs. But a century partnership between Owais Shah and Angelo Mathew ( from Sri Lanka ) did the job. In the last 10 overs KKR scored 104 runs.
Deccan Chargers (DC) started on a blazing note with Adam Gilchrist and VVS Laxman opening. For the first 60 runs they did not lose a wicket. The first break was given by Murali karthik in the form of VVS Laxman around 5.5 overs. Then started a series of wicket falls with shrewd planning and change in bowling by KKR captain Saurav Ganguly. Here too, the stars started shine on KKR’s side after 10 overs. Finally, KKR won by 14 runs as DC managed to score only 150/7. From the last IPL 2, this time around a lot of things have changed. First, KKR has got a new coach in Dav Whatmore, who is much better than confused theocratic Aussie coaches. Then they have world famous bowler Wasim Akram as bowling coach. A new captain in Saurav Ganguly.
But it was DC who let the match go out of their hand because of poor shot selection. But at the same time, I would not like to take the credit from KKR of taking wickets and winning. With turn around in teams like KKR, IPL season 3 should be more interesting.
