In India if you lost your mobile phone, in most cases is lost forever. Lodging FIR with police do not help much and informing the service provider you can just block the sim or block all outgoing calls. This is what I experienced personally when I lost my prized possesion then, “Nokia Engage” - which was stolen while travelling in a bus near to the present Total Mall, Madiva. All the thief needed to do is throw the SIM card to hide their crime and I was very disappointed when Nokia support told me in India they do not have the service to block the handset where it is required most.
However, there seems some hope now to get back your mobile phone. Recently, a company called MicroTec introduced a Mobile Tracking System. How it work? Just download the software on to your mobile and MicroTec’s server records your number, two reference numbers and your e-mail ID. If a thief makes a call with a new SIM, it messages and e-mails you his phone number and location. Make sense? You can have the basic version of the software at Rs 99 for a limited period, the standard version at Rs 399 and the advanced version Rs 499 at www.microlmts.net. Handsets from Samsung not only let you track your lost cell phone but also let you prevent data misuse by locking your handset. Also, if you are kidnapped along with your mobile phone, pressing a single key shoots a text message to your nearest contact. Lets see when our cops will make use of such technologies!

I lost my N73 Mobile on 7th Sep 2008 evening its EMEI No.358973012847188. Please help me to trace this mobile.
I have already given the complaint and also di activated the sim. but i need my mobile because it has very sensative data on it.

@ Mohammed Mohiyuddin Khan - 1. You can call up Nokia Contact center and tell your EMEI no. and ask them if they can track it. I am not sure if do so now. This service was not there when I lost my mobile.
2. As N73 do have any in built tracker system like Sumsang it may be difficult to track. If you have insurance then you should go ahead and claim it. From next time you can download the LOst Mobile Tracking system from Microlmts.
3. File an FIR.

@ Ravi - Please call up Nokia care and check if they can track the mobile for you. Fyi, when I contacted Nokia care last time they told they me, this facility is not available in India. Or if your phone has tracking facility activated like Samsung mobile, you can track it. However, I suggest file an FIR.

@ Rohit - If you have activated the mobile tracking feature, you will be able to track it. some of my friends told me to call the Nokia Care Centre and give the IMEI no.but do you think they would trace???
coz today itself i enquired about it from a mobile dealer.he said that even if we provide the IMEI no. to the cops, they wont do anything as such.unless and untill its the no. of any VIP,they wont take any action at all..!!!
i simply dont know dear what exactly i have to do with this IMEI no. to get my N72 back.
please help me yaar as its my 1st mobile of my life and i can do anything to get it back!!!

@ Asmita - I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. You did the right thing by filing an FIR with the cops. Please contact Nokia Care at +91 (80) 30303838 - Timmings - 0900 - 2100 hrs (Mon - Sun, including PHs) and tell your EMEI no. and ask them if they can track it. If not atleast if they can block your cell phone, nobody can enjoy with your stolen phone. Also, did your mobile phone had any tracking software like it comes built in Samsung phones? It is advisable to have tracking softwares installed on costly mobile phones and at the same time go for insurance.
If you have insurance, you should go ahead and make the claim. Lets hope for the best. Good luck to you.

@ Yamini - Please note that Samsung mobile phones comes with built in tracker. However, you need activate that. Have you activated it? If yes, then if the new user of phone changes the sim and makes a call then it will send via SMS to you. You can pass on this info to the cops who can help you recover your phone.

@ Nilam Fernandes - Do the HTC phone have in built tracking feature like Samsung mobiles? If yes and you have activated that, you may be able to track it even the sim card has been changed. If not then, you may call HTC customer care and request if they can track the phone. If not then you may request them to block the handset so that no can enjoy your phone which your bought with hard earned money. Lastly, if you have insurance then you should go ahead and file an FIR and proceed to claim the cover.
