Movie Review: Hello

December 1, 2008 – 4:42 pm

Hello is based on the bergeoing call center industry in India. The story has been adapted from the book “A night @ Call Center” by Chetan Bhagat. Hello stars Sharman Joshi, Sohail Khan, Esha Kopikar, Gul Panag, Amrita Arora in the lead.  Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in guest appearance. It tried to show how the young live dangerously facing opposite biological time clock, emotional issues, lack of time etc. Sharman Joshi as Shyam is an young agent in a call center, however he is on the verge of losing his girl friend Priyanka (Gul Panag). Priyanka’s mother wants her to get married to an US based NRI. Priyanka is confused and sad as Shyam’s career is going nowhere. Esha Kopikar, another agent wanted to be model and ready to do anything for that. She left her house in this regard. She was working in the call center to support her while she make it big in the modeling circuit. However, in the process of fullfilling, she get used by one guy. Varun (Sohail) is a fun loving easy going guy, friend of Shyam and like Esha. Radhika (Amrita Arora) is a victim of a abusive mother in law and not understanding and flirting husband. Then tere was one military whose son is settled in US and he is not allowed to talk to his grandson.

Bakshi, the greedy head of the center of this US based call center. This movie tried to show what all happen in a call center – high pressure job, performance, quick money but no peace. Sohail and Shyam had developed a website manual and handed over to Bakshi in the hope that it will be send to Boston (the company head quater). He did sent it, however in his own name and he was rewarded by a new posting at Boston. At the same time due to low call volume, the company decided to cut around 1000 jobs. Then these guys played a game to expose bakshi and saved the jobs by increasing call volumes though in a dubious way. At the end, Shyam gets his love back. Shyam and Sohail started a website development company and were doing quite good. Esha Kopikar joined a NGO, Radhika was happy as a house wife as her family became good, military uncle went to US to befriend his son, Priyanka became a teacher.

Typically, it is the story in real life too, people will leave a call center job down the line.

Ratings: Not bad
