Movie Review: Rock On

At the very beginning let me clarify that this is no bakwas movie and if you are looking for running around the tree love story or explicit material then this movie is not for you. Stay Away! But this movie was made with care and love and it shows. It is backed by good acting, good script, good music. This story is about real people and you will be able to relate to it. The story revolves around 4 friends who want to make it big in music. The movie Rock On features Farhan Akthar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny and television actress Prachi Desai in a new avatar.

4 friends Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akthar – lead vocalist), Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal – lead guitarist), Kedar Zaveri (KD or killer drummer Purab Kholi – drummer) and Rob Nancy ( Luke Kenny – Keyboard) formed a rock band called Magic and their only aim was to make it big in music. Around that time a rock music contest was announced and the winner will be given a chance to cut an album. Magic won the contest and was on the way to make their very first album. Joe’s girl friend Deby is a costume designer and wanted to do the costume designing the album. In this regard Joe requested Aditya to talk to the album producer. But Deby was rejected outright. Also, Joe wrote a slow love song for Deby dedicated to her which was supposed to be the 8th song of the album. But the album producer wanted a marriage song in its place as then it was a marriage season. The choice was either accept his wish and sign for the album or nothing at all. Aditya signed and the other 3 followed. During the album shooting the focus was mainly on Aditya and he was given a rock star costume. It did not go well with the others, mainly with Joe. While they were arguing, the music director came in and in a feast of rage, Joe punched the music director and Aditya. Well, their dream of cutting their first album was over and the band also disintegrated. After 10 years, by sheer chance KD met Aditya’s wife at his store where he was working. Then Aditya was a successful investment banker, Rob still makes music for big name music director and Joe was almost broke. It was at the insistance and arrangement of Aditya’s wife (Prachi Desai) that they came together again and perform for the last time at a contest. Meanwhile Rob had developed tumor but he did not disclose that. He died after 2 month of the contest. That is the last time Magic performed together. Later, KD and Joe started a muisc company where they promote young talents. This is just a gist, I suggest you should watch the movie.
