Now Moral Police after Cheerleaders
October 23, 2007 – 5:40 am
Many newspapers and websites have described the cheerleaders in the India-Australia twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai as “scantily-clad squads of cheerleaders”. Cammon, the media should be little sensible and should not sensationalize everything just for ratings. Now you already have Mumbai police playing the scanner with the Maharashtra state Dy chief minister/home minister playing the head of the moral police squad. This is what he said, —
“I was not present at the match but we will go through the tapes before taking any action on the issue”, Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, told reporters at Mantralaya.

Is reviewing video tapes is his job when we has more important things to attend? Or he thought he missed it and must watch it. Looks like everyone is trying to become the custodian of Indian cultural just to fulfill their own needs. If one is protesting this cheerleaders in the spirit of the game that cricket in itself is thrilling and there is enough dancing with the crowd. That the hired dancing troupe may be an extra and can be a distraction, then I can agree as there is valid reason. But not if one beats up emotion in the name of Indian culture. If you take look on the cheerleaders dress, you will notice that they are sports outfit which is apt for a sporting event. They did not go in their shorts. Please give alteast the sports a breather.

If anything that comes to mind is that there are many girls in our country with good dancing skill. So why not taking their service and on the contrary hiring a foreign troupe looks little amusing.
