Planet M Store Re-launched at Brigade Road, Bangalore

December 16, 2013 – 4:35 pm

The Planet M store was re-launched with a new interior at the Edward building on Brigade road yesterday. Earlier it was located on the first floor of Curzon complex on the same road. In this regard Planet M had organized an event and I was invited to cover it. Few years back I used to visit Planet M and MusicWorld pretty often when music was still on tape cassettes. Digitization of music have changed the scenario and has brought freedom.

The event started with paintings on Kid’s hands or face with popular comic characters like Angry birds. At 7.30 pm with the grand entry of two characters of Ninja turtles the show kick started. With the Ninja Turtles on stage both kids and adults went berserk to shook hands and get themselves clicked with them.

The show typically revolved around the kids and an MC was managing it. The first round was like musical chair, whoever loses out will be asked a question on Ninja Turtles, if the participant is unable to answer then they were given the option to do something of their choice. In case they are not able to do anything convincing, they are out. This activity saw 6th standard boy Balaji as winner.

The was followed by cake cutting for Planet M.

The last activity was dance competition, participants have to stop dancing as the music stops or they will be eliminated.

MTV Coke Studio 2013 at IIM, Bangalore

November 23, 2013 – 10:13 am

MTV Coke Studio 2013, Bangalore

MTV Coke Studio was in Bangalore yesterday evening at IIM, Bangalore. This is probably the first outdoor event for Coke Studio. Until now the 3 seasons of Coke Studio@MTV was mainly indoor. Passes for the event were selling for Rs 200 but one my friend received free passes. We landed on Friday evening at IIM at Bannerghatta road. The entry inside made me nostalgic with scenes from Amir Khan starrer 3 Idiots coming to mind. After parking the vehicle we were led to a open ground where the stage for Coke Studio was erected. Though it was friday, still there was decent crowd.

The anchor performer for this event was music composer and singer Amit Trivedi (became popular with Hindi movie Dev D and Udaan). The event started with some songs from Shilpa Rao. But it took quite some time for the tempo to pickup. The idea of Coke Studio is to bring a confluence of diverse musical genres and styles from various parts of the world and particularly India. But in an open theater environment, low tempo music often fail to enthrall the crowd. Its not that I am against slow tempo music or I do not listen to them. By 8.30 pm some people started leaving! But then entered Tochi Naina and the bang started with Katle Dilli from No one killed Jessica, followed by Pardesi and Emotional Aatyachar from the movie Dev D . It also featured some new singers like Mili Nair. As usual the last hour of a music concert holds the best and they did not disappoint there. The show came to an end around 10.30 pm. Now the pictures for you!
