Present HAL Airport May House MALL In Near Future
February 2, 2008 – 12:09 pm
Recently a leading newspaper published that our presnet HAL airport may very well become a shoping or enteratinment centre with retail malls, multiplexes, five star hotel and convention centre. As HAl airport will have to be closed after the New airport at Devanahalli starts functioning on March 30th 2008. This may not be a bad idea given that HAL earns around Rs 300 crore as parking and landing charges for flights. After the HAL airport is closed this earnings will be lost. Hence. by commercial renting/leasing some part can generate good revenue. Also, on cards is a MRO(Maintenance, repair and overhauling facility).
For the commercial use of some part of the present HAL airport, the PSU is already in talks with interested players. Looks like where ever prime property becomes availlable goes for development of a mall and Bangalore now very well becomming a mall city. May be that tag is already given but may not have been widely known.
